Hungerford is situated on the Queensland/New South Wales Border fence approximately 280 kilometres north-west from Bourke and 260 kilometres south west from Cunnamulla.

The Hungerford Sports Association holds its annual horse & motorbike gymkhana on the October long weekend of each year. The day is a fun filled, family orientated event for people of all ages.

​

It kicks off Friday night at the Royal Mail Hotel with a camp oven meal and entertainment by a live band. 

Saturday is jam packed full of horse and motorbike events for both children and adults, as well as novelty events such as the famous Mulga Mac's bicycle race, a tug of war and sprint races for men, women and children. The day winds up with a live band and licensed bar in the evening. Full catering is provided throughout the day Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. The Ross Wallace Show Grounds boast modern, clean shower/toilet facilities and there is plenty of room to camp.

Funds raised benefit the Royal Flying Doctor Service and other local charities.
